The month of September was action-packed with several Indian sportspersons starring at various sporting events taking place around the globe. Whether it was AIBA World Boxing Championships or World Wrestling Championships or even the Korean Open 2019, Indians pulled off impressive performances and bagged several accolades.Â
With all the sporting events successfully wrapped up in September, the month of October promises more exciting tournaments for Indian sports fans all over the world.
Let's take a look at the major upcoming sports events and tournaments where the country’s top athletes will take part and fight for the top prizes.
2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which will be held in Stuttgart, Germany, is scheduled to start from 4th October 2019 and will conclude on 13th October 2019. The event will feature the top gymnasts from all over the world competing for one of the most prestigious titles in the field of gymnastics.
Ashish Kumar, who is the most successful Indian gymnast in the Commonwealth Games history will lead the six-member Indian contingent at the Championships. Yogeshwar Singh, Aditya Singh Rana, Praniti Nayak, Praniti Das, and Aruna Budda Reddy will join Kumar at the big-ticket event.
2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships
The 2019 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships is all set to take place in Ulan-Ude, Russia from 3rd October 2019 and will go on until 13th October 2019. This event will turn out to be the eleventh edition of the Championships, which was inaugurated in 2001.
Six-time world champion Mary Kom (51kg) will lead the 10-member Indian squad at the prestigious event. Accompanying her will be India Open gold medalists Sarita Devi (60kg), Neeraj (57kg) and Jamuna Boro (54kg) along with Manju Rani (48kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Saweety Boora (75kg), Nandini (81kg), Kavita Chahal (+81kg), Manju Bomboriya (64kg).
Swedish open (Table Tennis)
The 2019 ITTF World Tour Swedish Open Championships will take place in Stockholm, Sweden starting from 1st October 2019 and concluding on 6th October 2019.
Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Soumyajit Ghosh, Kamal Sharath Achanta, Mudit Dani are among the men participants. Whereas, Girish Kamath Archana, Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, Pooja Sahasrabudhe and Ankita Das are among the Indian women participants at the ITTF World Tour event.
German Open (Table Tennis)
The 2019 edition of the annual table tennis tournament held in Germany, run by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) will take place from 8th October 2019 to 13th October 2019 in Bremen.
Amalraj Anthony, Harmeet Desai, Manav Vikash Thakkar, Kamal Sharath Achanta, Satjiyan Gnanasekaran, Soumyajit Ghosh, Abhishek Yadav, Sanil Shetty are the Indian men participating at the 2019 ITTF World Your Platinum in Germany. On the other hand, the women participants include - Girish Archana Kamath, Sutirtha Mukherjee, Ayhika Mukherjee, Manika Batra, Madhurika Patkar, Sreeja Akula, Selena Selvakumar.
2019 Denmark Open (Badminton)
The 2019 Denmark Open will take place in Odense Sports Park in Odense, Denmark from 15th October 2019 to 20th October 2019. The tournament offers whopping total prize money of $775,000.
Parupalli Kashyap will lead the Indian men contingent after his recent success at the Korean Open 2019, where he reached the semifinals. Accompanying him will be Bhamidipati Sai Praneeth, Prannoy Kumar, Srikanth Kidambi, Sameer Verma in the men's singles.
On the other hand, Saina Nehwal and P. V. Sindhu will try to leave their mark in the singles event. While the team of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and B. Sumeeth Reddy and Manu Attri will take charge for the men's doubles event.
Ashwini Ponnappa and N. Sikki Reddy are the only women's team from India participating at the big-ticket event. In the mixed doubles event, Pranav Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will feature.
2019 French Open (Badminton)
The Yonex French Open 2019 will be held at Stade Pierre de Coubertin in Paris, France from 22nd October 2019 to 27th October 2019. The Super 750 tournament offers $750,000 prize money to it's participants.
PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Saina Nehwal, B Sai Praneeth, Sameer Verma, HS Prannoy, Parupalli Kashyap will feature in the singles event. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag shetty and Manu Attri and B Sumeeth will try to leave their mark in the men's doubles event. Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy will participate in women's doubles. While Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki and Satwiksairaj and Aswini will team up for the mixed doubles event.
2019-20 Indian Super League
The 2019 -20 Indian Super League season will be the sixth edition of the Indian football league, which is scheduled to start from 20th October 2019 and the event will wrap up in March 2020.
The 10 teams competing for one of the top Indian professional leagues' trophy includes - Athletico de Kolkata, Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa, Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC, Kerala Blasters FC, Mumbai City FC, NorthEast United FC, Odisha FC.
2022 FIFA World Cup Qualification (AFC)
The Asian section of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification acts as qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Indian football team will face Bangladesh on 15th October 2019.
2019 Sultan of Johor Cup
The 2019 Sultan of Johor Cup will be the ninth edition of the event, which is an international men's under - 21 field hockey. The 2019 edition will take place in Malaysia from 12th October 2019 to 19th October 2019. A total of six teams competed for the title, which includes - Australia, India, Great Britain, Japan, Malaysia, and New Zealand.
South Africa Women Tour of India
The South African women cricket team is on a tour to India, with four T20s match already over to date. The two teams are scheduled to play the 5th and the last T20 match of their series with India securing the series with a 2-0 lead. They are also scheduled to play a 3-match ODI series on 9th, 11th and 14th October 2019 respectively with all the 3 matches to be held in Vadodrara.
