Mehak Sharma set new national records at National Weightlifting C'ships

Mehak Sharma of Punjab created new national records at the IWLF National Championships in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh on Saturday.

Mehak, who won a silver medal at the Khelo India Youth, Junior and Senior National Ranking Women’s Weightlifting Tournament in 2023, broke the national records in Clean and Jerk, and total lift in the women's +87kg category.

While Mehak broke the Clean and Jerk record of Martina (136kg) by lifting 140kg, she broke her own total lift record by lifting four kg more than her previous best of 240kg.

She, however, fell one kg short of her own record in the snatch category. Mahek lifted 104kg, one kg less than her national record of 105kg.

Meanwhile, V Jagadish of Services broke the national records in the men's 102kg category, as he lifted 157kg in snatch and 196kg in Clean and Jerk to record a total of 353kg.

Jagdish broke Kojum Taba's snatch record of 153kg by lifting four kg more, while his total lift was two kg more than Pardeep Singh's tally of 351kg.

On the other hand, Vanshita Varma of Central Railway, a Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships gold medallist in the junior category, won the gold medal in the 81kg category.
