India's Mirabai Chanu cemented her legacy as one of the country's greatest weightlifters, clinching a third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal after dominating the women's 48kg event at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Olympic silver medallist overcame an early setback in the snatch, failing to clear 82kg in her opening attempt.

Mirabai quickly regained her rhythm, successfully lifting 82kg on her second attempt before clearing 85kg with ease on her third to finish atop the standings after the opening discipline.

In the clean and jerk, Mirabai narrowly missed 105kg on her opening attempt but made no mistake the second time around, successfully lifting the weight to take her overall total to 190kg.

The effort was enough to seal the gold medal and set a new Commonwealth Games record total, with one attempt remaining, which she skipped.

Nigeria's Ruth Asuquo Nyong claimed the silver medal with a total of 168kg, while Malaysia's Irene Jane Henry settled for bronze on 167kg.

The triumph marks another historic milestone for the 31-year-old. Mirabai, who won silver at Glasgow 2014, has now claimed three successive Commonwealth Games gold medals after victories at Gold Coast 2018, Birmingham 2022, and Glasgow 2026.

She also became the first Indian weightlifter to win four Commonwealth Games medals, including three consecutive golds.

Mirabai's victory also strengthened India's medal haul in weightlifting after Rishikanta Singh earlier secured a silver medal in the men's 60kg competition.
