Asian Weightlifting C'ships: Gyaneshwari Yadav bags two medals and sets a national record
She broke her own national snatch record with an 88kg lift and clinched a silver and a bronze medal in the women's 53kg.

Gyaneshwari Yadav delivered an outstanding performance on day 2 of the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Ahmedabad, securing two medals on Wednesday.
The Indian weightlifter lifted 88kg in the snatch to break her own national record of 87kg in the newly introduced women’s 53kg category.
Her snatch attempts came at 83kg, 86kg, and 88kg, with the final successful lift placing her behind China’s Zhao Jinlan, who registered 95kg. Vietnam’s Hoai Houng Nguyen secured bronze in the snatch event.
In the clean and jerk category, Gyaneshwari successfully lifted 103kg in her opening attempt. She then attempted 106kg in her second lift, which initially appeared successful but was ruled unsuccessful by the judges.
The decision was challenged by the Indian team, but the ruling remained unchanged.
Gyaneshwari returned for her final attempt at 106kg and completed the lift successfully, ending the competition with a total lift of 194kg (88kg + 106kg).
Her combined total earned her an overall bronze medal in the women’s 53kg category.
China’s Zhao Jinlan claimed gold with a total lift of 216kg (95kg + 121kg), while Vietnam’s Houngnguyen Hoai secured silver with 195kg (87kg + 108kg).
In the clean and jerk standings, Cheng Ting-I won bronze with 107kg, Houngnguyen Hoai took silver, and Zhao Jinlan secured gold with 121kg.
Gyaneshwari’s medals marked India’s second and third medals of the championships after Komal Kohar’s medal-winning performance in the women’s 48kg category on the opening day.
India will have two more events later in the day in the men’s 65kg and women’s 58kg categories and will hope to add more medals to its tally.
