The Indian volleyball team's dream of reclaiming victory in the final round of Asian U-23 men’s championship remained unfulfilled as they lost 1-3 to a fiery Chinese Taipei side to settle for a silver medal on Sunday. India, who otherwise came into the match in great form, conceded three sets to a rampaging Chinese side who secured a comprehensive 3-1 win. After losing out in the first set, the Amit Gulia-led side looked to forge a powerful comeback but failed to capitalise in the second set as Chinese Taipei crushed the Indian challenge 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-23. The third set began on a competitive note with neither side being able to get a lead of more than two points. It was Shon John who turned the set in favour of India with a series of decisive blocks, allowing India to win the set easily. With two sets already in their pocket, Chinese Taipei capitalised the advantage in the fourth set and made the most of India's frayed nerves, making an exit with an overall thumping win. Earlier, the Indian side scripted history for itself yesterday as it reached the final of the Asian U-23 Men’s Volleyball Championship defeating neighbours Pakistan 3-1. This was the first time India reached the final of the Asian Men’s U-23 Championship after the team topped the tally which helped it secure a berth in the final eight of the tournament. The Amit Gulia-led side had registered wins over China and New Zealand.
