The 8th-seeded duo of Rohan Bopanna and Aldila Sutjiadi saw their memorable run in the mixed doubles come crashing at the semifinals of the US Open on Tuesday.

They lost to the American wildcard pairing of Donald Young and Taylor Townsend in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) at the iconic Flushing Meadows, with the American duo's all-leftie combination proving too much for Bopanna and Sutjiadi.

Young and Townsend were in red-hot form as they dominated the proceedings against the 8th-seeded duo.

The Indo-Indonesian pair, however, battled valiantly, recovering from an early 0-3 deficit in the first set to draw level at 3-3. However, they couldn't maintain their momentum against Young and Townsend.

This victory was special to Young as it propelled him into the final in his final tournament.

The 35-year-old American, who has been a key player in professional tennis for over a decade displayed his flair much to the delight of the home crowd.

Despite the loss, Bopanna and Sutjiadi can hold their heads high after a fantastic tournament run as they bested the fourth-seeded pair of Matthew Ebden and Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinals.
