The 8th seeded duo of Rohan Bopanna and Aldila Sutjiadi have secured their place in the semifinals of the US Open, with a thrilling victory over 4th-seeded pair of Matthew Ebden and Barbora Krejcikova with a scoreline of 7-6(4), 2-6, 10-7 in the quarterfinals.

The match, held at the iconic Flushing Meadows, showcased a dramatic turn of events as the Indo/Indonesian pair, who were initially trailing 3-0 in the first set, staged a remarkable comeback and showcased immense grit to take the opening set in a tiebreaker.

Ebden, the reigning Olympic doubles gold medalist from Australia, and Krejcikova, the defending Wimbledon singles champion from Czech Republic, proved formidable opponents on paper, but Bopanna and Sutjiadi's steely determination was enough to overcome their challenge.

Stunning reversal

After losing the second set convincingly managing to win only two games, Bopanna and Sutjiadi came together and delivered a stunning performance in the decisive tiebreaker, clinching their spot in the semis.

This victory is particularly significant for the 44-year-old Bopanna, who has now matched his best mixed doubles performance at the US Open, achieved previously in 2015 with partner Chan Yung-jan. At the time, Bopanna was beaten by Leander Paes and Martina Hingis in the semifinals.

What's next

Bopanna and Sutjiadi will now face the unseeded American duo of Donald Young and Taylor Townsend in the semifinals.

Bopanna's run in the men's doubles has unfortunately come to a close.

Seeded second, the pair's campaign came to a shock end as they were defeated by the Argentine duo of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni, who were 16th seeds, in straight sets of 1-6, 5-7 in the third round.
