US Open 2024: Bopanna-Sutjiadi set to face Ebden-Krejcikova in quarterfinals
Bopanna and Sutjiadi defeated John Peers and Katerina Siniakova by 0-6, 7-6(5), 10-7 in the mixed doubles pre-quarterfinals.
India’s Rohan Bopanna and his Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi advanced to the mixed doubles quarterfinals at the US Open on Sunday morning.
Bopanna and Sutjiadi defeated John Peers and Katerina Siniakova by 0-6, 7-6(5), 10-7.
The Indo-Indonesian duo made a horrific start to the match as they lost the opening set 0-6, with Australia's Peers and Czechia's Siniakova breaking them thrice.
Bopanna and Sutjiadi staged a comeback in the match in the second set despite a spirited effort from Peers and Siniakova.
The second set was tied at 6-6, forcing a tie-breaker. Bopanna and Sutjiadi won it 7-5 to draw level.
In the third set, Bopanna and Sutjiadi won 10-7 and advanced to the quarterfinals.
The Indian star is now set to face his men's doubles partner Matthew Ebden of Australia in the quarterfinals. The Australian Olympic champion and his Czech partner Barbora Krejcikova progressed to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 win over the USA's Iva Jovic and Kaylan Bigun.
The quarterfinal match is scheduled for September 3.
Before the mixed doubles quarterfinal fixture, Bopanna and Ebden will face the Argentinean pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Andrés Molteni in their men's doubles pre-quarterfinals on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, India’s Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti will face off against Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the men's doubles Round of 16 clash at Grandstand later today.
