Swiss Indoors Basel 2024: Yuki Bhambri and Albano Olivetti lose in quarterfinals
Facing John Peers and Jamie Murray in the quarterfinals, the Indo-French duo faltered after winning the first set.
Indian doubles tennis player Yuki Bhambri, along with his French partner Albano Olivetti lost in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Swiss Indoor Basel ATP event, on Friday.
The duo lost 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 to Jamie Murray of the United Kingdom and John Peers of Australia.
In what was a tough quarterfinals fixture, with Murray being a seven-time Grand Slam winner and Peers a two-time Grand Slam winner and the reigning Olympic gold medalist, the Indo-French duo surprised everyone winning the opening set 6-4 and taking a 1-0 lead.
The second set was fought tooth and nail, but the Aussie-English pair edged out in the end, winning the second set 7-5, and took the match to a tiebreaker third set.
They then proceeded to dominate the third and tiebreaker set, winning it 10-6 and advancing to the semifinals.
Bhambri and Olivetti will be disappointed with the defeat, given that they won the first set and had as many as 15 aces in the game.
But the quality of the Murray-Peers duo shone through at the end, giving them the decisive say in the quarterfinals.
