Sumit Nagal set to play in Tennis Premier League in Mumbai
This year’s Tennis Premier League (TPL) will be held in Mumbai from December 3-8.
India’s No. 1 singles player, Sumit Nagal, and France’s Hugo Gaston are set to participate in this year’s Tennis Premier League (TPL), which will be held in Mumbai from December 3-8.
Last year’s champions Bengaluru SG Pipers, along with six other franchises PBG Pune Jaguars, Bengal Wizards, Punjab Patriots, Hyderabad Strikers, Gujarat Panthers, and Mumbai Leon Army will fight for the title in the sixth edition of the league which will be held at the Cricket Club of India.
In the women’s category, top WTA-ranked players, including 41st-ranked Magda Linette of Poland and 52nd-ranked Elina Avanesyan from Armenia, are set to participate in the tournament.
Tournament Structure and Format
The tournament will follow a 25-point format, with each franchise competing in five matches to secure a spot in the semifinals.
In the league stage, there will be a total of 500 points, with each match between two franchises featuring men's singles, women's singles, mixed doubles, and men's doubles.
A total of 100 points will be up for grabs in each match, with 25 points assigned to each category. The top four teams will qualify for the semifinals.
The organisers of TPL have tied up with Gujarat State Tennis Association (GSTA), Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) and Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) to conduct district ranking tournaments to discover and monitor young players.
In addition, they have launched a mobile app that connects the tennis community across India, with over 100 academies affiliated with the TPL app. The app allows players to compete with each other and track their progress.

Founded in 2018 by Kunal Thakkur and Mrunal Jain, the Tennis Premier League (TPL) is an Indian professional tennis league.
It is supported by the All India Tennis Association (AITA), the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA), and the Indian Wheelchair Tennis Tour (IWTT).
Many Bollywood stars co-own the teams, and former tennis player and the latest International Hall of Famer, Leander Paes, co-owns the Bengal Wizards, the finalists from last year.
