Sumit Nagal withdrew from the Rio Open 2025 on Wednesday due to a fever.

Nagal, who was set to face Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, took to social media to announce his withdrawal from the tournament.

“Hello everyone. Unfortunately, I have had to withdraw from the Rio Open due to a fever. I was really looking forward to playing in front of the passionate fans in Rio, but I will definitely be back next year. For now, I will take some time to recover and come back stronger. Thanks for all your support – it means a lot!” Nagal wrote on X.

The Rio Open was supposed to be Nagal’s fourth tournament of the year. He began his 2025 season at the Australian Open in January, where he crashed out in the first round after losing to Czechia's Tomáš Macháč in the men’s singles event at Melbourne Park.

Earlier this month, Nagal advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Rosario Challenger in Argentina, defeating local player Renzo Olivo in the first round before losing to Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien.

At the Argentina Open, he was unable to progress beyond the first round, falling to France’s Corentin Moutet 7-5, 6-2 at Estadio 2 on February 12. The match lasted an hour and 52 minutes.

Nagal will now look forward to recovering from the bout of fever.
