Shanghai Masters 2024: Bopanna and Dodig off to a winning start
Facing Spain's Pedro Martinez and Pable Carreno Busta, the Indian-Croatian duo sailed to a straight-set victory.
Indian doubles tennis stalwart Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian partner Ivan Dodig won their opening match at the 2024 Shanghai Masters, in Shanghai, on Friday.
Facing Spain's Pedro Martinez and Pablo Carreno Busta, the Indian-Croatian duo sailed to a comfortable 6-4, 6-3 victory.
The duo were dominant right from game one of the first set, ensuring their Spanish opponents were not given any room to settle down.
After being in the lead for much of the first set, Bopanna and Dodig took a deserved 1-0 lead in the match thanks to a 6-4 win in the first set.
They switched gears further in the second set, with the Spaniards constantly playing catch up.
Bopanna and Dodig, the fifth seeds in the tournament, were ruthless in attack and completely outplayed Martinez and Busta.
They wrapped up the second set just as quickly as the first, if not quicker, winning it 6-3 and winning the match in straight sets.
Their round of 16 clash is scheduled for the 9th of October.
The Shanghai Masters Open is a prestigious tennis tournament and is one of only nine ATP Masters 1000 tournaments on the circuit.
