Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna, along with his Crotian doubles partner Ivan Dodig, exited the Shanghai Masters 2024, following a defeat in the round of 16, on Tuesday.
The Indo-Croatian pair lost to Nikola Mektic and Wesley Koolhof in an intensely fought encounter, with the former ultimately losing 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 12-14.
A close encounter
The first set was fought tooth and nail by both sets of players with a tie break needed to decide a winner.
Mektic and Koolhof eventually came out on top, winning the tie break 7-5 and taking the first set.
Rohan and Ivan roared back into the contest in the second set, dominating proceedings and not giving any room for their opponent.
The duo prevailed 6-2 and pushed the match to the super tie-break.
One again, the super tie-break was hotly contested with no team winning to give in an inch.
The Indian-Croatian pair had a match point in the super tiebreaker, but failed to convert it.
Thereafter, Mektic and Koolhof had a chance of their own and they duly capitalized to close out the super tie-break 14-12 and pocket the match as well.
