US Open 2024: Bopanna, Ebden lose in men's doubles quarterfinals
After their pre-quarterfinal exit in the men's doubles discipline, Bopanna and Ebden will face off against each other in the mixed doubles quarterfinals tonight.
Rohan Bopanna's US Open men's doubles campaign came crashing down, as the ace Indian tennis player and his Australian men's doubles partner Matthew Ebden were knocked out of the US Open Grand Slam on Monday.
Bopanna and Ebden lost to Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez and Andrés Molteni in straight sets (1-6, 5-7) in the pre-quarterfinals.
The Argentinean pair dominated Bopanna and Ebden in the first set as they broke the Indo-Australian pair twice to win the opening set 1-6.
The second set saw a spirited fightback from Bopanna and Ebden as they held their serves to level the set 5-5.
However, Gonzalez and Molteni earned a crucial break point in the 11th game with a backhand volley winner.
The Argentine duo eventually won the set in the next game as Bopanna and Ebden succumbed to a service error.
Gonzalez and Molteni will face off against Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz in the quarterfinals.
Since winning the Australian Open title, Bopanna and Ebden have been going through a rough patch.
They lost in the second round at Wimbledon to Hendrik Jebens and Constantin Frantzen. They also failed to shine at the French Open where they lost to Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
Bopanna, and Ebden to face off in mixed doubles quarters

Bopanna and his Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi will take on Ebden and Czechia's Czech player Barbora Krejcikova in the mixed doubles quarterfinals tonight.
