India’s ace female tennis player Sania Mirza recently reiterated her will to fight on and secure what to her is a dream and something that is yet to be fulfilled. At the age of 34, she is still going strong with a burning desire to secure a podium finish at the Tokyo Olympics.
In a recent interview with the Hindu, she mentioned her routine and focus to claim something that mas missed out from her trophy cabinet. Training 4 hours a day, the veteran will be looking to compete in her fourth and possibly final Olympics after first competing in the competition back in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics. She opened to the Hindu on her short term goals , “I try to stay healthy and keep myself fit for the challenge of taking part in the Olympics, which will be my fourth. An Olympic medal is one thing which is missing from my list of achievements. I want to shut this chapter of my life with a medal in Tokyo,”.
She recognises the challenges that come with the event along with the very competition itself. According to her, the bio bubble and the constant fight to stay fit and healthy is critical in sustaining oneself off the court. It should be noted that Sania Mirza recovered from Covid 19 and was one of the many Indian sports stars who got the virus in the past few months. She has managed to fight back and get her fitness on track in time for what hopes to be a successful Olympic tournament for her.
She has been putting in regular training sessions along with working on her mental and physical sustenance which is extremely crucial for her overall performance. Prior to the Olympics, she will be looking to enhance her game at upcoming tournaments in Dubai and Doha to be held within the next few months.
