India's Sriram Balaji and his Mexican partner, Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela, booked their spot in the semifinal of the 2025 Mexican Open on Thursday.

Balaji and Miguel registered a come-from-behind victory (6-7, 6-2, 10-8) against the wildcard pairing - Mexico's Hans Hach Verdugo and JJ Tracy of the USA - in the second round of the ATP 500 tournament.

Come from behind win

The Indo-Mexican pair entered the second round by knocking out reigning Wimbledon champion Jan Zielinski of Poland and his partner Sander Gille in the opening round on Wednesday.

Balaji and Miguel continued the momentum and booked their spot in the semi-final with a tight three-set win against Verdugo and Tracy. This will be Balaji's first semi-final appearance at an ATP 500 tournament.

Balaji and Varela had a poor start as they faced a breakpoint in the third game of the first set, but they bounced back in the exciting final three games, forcing a tie-break in the opening set.

Verdugo and Tracy, however, won the tiebreak (7-5) and took an early advantage in the match.

In contrast, the second set was very different. The Indo-Mexican pair showed some excellent skills and took a massive lead of 4-0 from the start and converted that easily into their favour, 6-2.

The match entered the deciding super tie-breaker, where both the pairs had a poor run, losing their serves frequently, but eventually, Balaji and Varela marginally edged their opponents to win the set, 10-8.

Balaji and Varela will now face the fourth-seeded French pairing of Sadio Doubmia and Fabien Reboul in the semi-final later today.
