Fifteen-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi saw her impressive run at the L&T Mumbai Open 2025 WTA 125 come to an end in the semifinals, as she fell to fifth seed Jill Teichmann in straight sets, 3-6, 1-6, on Saturday.

Despite the loss, the young Indian sensation captured attention with her fearless performances throughout the tournament, marking herself as a rising star in Indian tennis.

A wild card entrant in qualifying, Maaya was playing only her fifth professional event and entered the tournament unranked on the WTA circuit.

However, she stunned the field with wins over Iryna Shymanovich, former Top 50 player Zarina Diyas, and Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi to book a place in the semifinals. Against Teichmann, the young Indian fought hard, but the experienced Swiss left-hander proved too strong.

Maaya started the match nervously, dropping her serve twice early to trail 0-4. However, once she found her rhythm, she troubled Teichmann with her aggressive groundstrokes.

The Indian broke serve in the fifth game and held for the first time, bringing the crowd into play. She even had a breakpoint in the seventh game with a stunning backhand winner, but Teichmann held firm, eventually closing out the set 6-3.

The second set followed a similar pattern. Despite the loss, Maaya remained upbeat, saying in her on-court interview, “Today was not as good as I’d hoped, but I’m happy with a great week.”

Teichmann was also full of praise, calling Maaya a "brilliant talent" with a bright future ahead.

Maaya trained at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca last year and has now secured a yearlong training contract in Spain.
