The Indo-Aussie pair, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden had a horrible start to their campaign at ATP Finals 2024, losing their second group stage match on straight sets in Turin, Italy on Wednesday.

They conceded a heavy defeat (5-7, 3-6) against the top-seeded pairing of Salvadoran Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic of Croatia, making their hopes of qualification for the semi-finals a bit tough.

They had a solid start to the game, winning a break in the very first serve of Mate Pavic but they could not make full use of this as Bopanna failed to hold his serve in the sixth game, leveling the score, 3-3.

The first set was going into the tiebreaker but then in the 12th game, Ebden had a poor serve game and they lost the set as he did two back-to-back double faults, resulting in a break in the final game of the set.

The top-seeded pair showcased their excellent returns and net play in the second set and won a break very early on, which gave them a solid lead of 3-0.

However, they also conceded a break in the seventh game, giving hope of a comeback to Bopanna and Ebden. But it didn't last long as Ebden failed to hold his serve in the very next game, losing the set 3-6.

The Indo-Aussie pair will next face the German pair of Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz in the final group game, where a win might help them progress to the knockout stage.
