ATP Finals 2024: Bopanna and Ebden lose to home duo Vavassori and Bolelli
The Italians dominated proceedings and won the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, giving the decorated Indo-Australian duo no chance.
Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden were beaten by Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in their opening fixture at the ATP Finals 2024, in Italy on Monday.
The match, lasting just under an hour, was won comprehensively by the fourth seeded Italian duo 6-2, 6-3, giving the decorated Indian-Australian duo no chance in the match.
With home support rallying behind them, Bolelli and Vavassori got off the blocks in dominating fashion, outplaying Bopanna and Ebden in every way possible.
After a crushing 6-2 win in the first set, the Italian pair did not slow down and continued with their onslaught, wrapping up the second set 6-3 and won the game in straight sets.
Such was the dominance of the Italians that Bopanna and Ebden did not manage a single break point in the entire match.
The Italians however, converted three of the eight break points they had in the match.
In addition to that, Bolelli and Vavassori also won 36 service points, as opposed to just 26 from Bopanna and Ebden.
The Indian-Australian duo, semifinalists in the 2023 ATP Finals, will face top seed Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador and Croatian Mate Pavic in their next group game on Wednesday.
