The Indian table tennis mixed doubles pair of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2025 WTT Singapore Smash on Tuesday.

The eighth seeded Indians had a relatively easier outing against Mexico's Marcos Madrid and Arantxa Cossio, winning the Round of 16 contest 3-1 in just 24 minutes.

Shah and Chitale, the recently crowned Indian national champions in singles events, raced to take the opening game 11-4 in no time. They won the next 11-5 to further solidify their hold over the match.

The Mexicans did fight back, forcing the Shah and Chitale to concede the third game tamely at 5-11. But the Indians, ranked 15th in the world, were quick to hit back and win the next game 11-7 to book their spot in the top eight.

Yashashwini Ghorpade advances

Meanwhile, Yashashwini Ghorpade advanced to the women's doubles round of 16 with a 3-2 win over Linda Bergstrom and Christina Kallberg of Sweden.

The 20-year-old Indian is playing the event with Australia's Minhyung Jee as her partner.

The Indo-Australian pair started well in the contest, holding their nerves to win the first game 13-11. They, however, struggled in the next two conceding 9-11, 7-11 as the Swedish paddlers took the lead.

With a spot in the pre-quarters on the line, Ghorpade and Jee upped their game to win the next two 11-6, 11-8 to win the 41-minute long battle in a decider.

Ayhika-Sutirtha bow out

Elsewhere, the Indian women's doubles pair of Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee bowed out of contention in the Round of 32.

Up against Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabutt and Orawan Paranang, the Indians went down 3-1 in 29 minutes.

The Mukherjees had won the opening game 11-7 but faltered soon after, conceding the next three 6-11, 9-11, 7-11 to crash out of the competition.

India's Mudit Dani also suffered an early exit in men's doubles, exiting in Round of 32 with a 0-3 loss against the Brazilian duo of Vitor Ishiy and Guilherme Theodoro.

Dani was partnered with Kim Taehyun of Malta for the event.
