India's no.1 men's doubles pairing of Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah booked their spot in the quarterfinal of the WTT Singapore Smash at the Singapore Sports Hub on Wednesday.
Manav and Manush blanked their Hong Kong opponents 11-5,11-8,11-8 to progress.
Meanwhile, Manush, partnering with Diya Chitale, lost the quarterfinal (1-3) in the mixed doubles category to the fourth-seeded Spanish pairing of Alvaro Robles and Maria Xiao.
A missed opportunity
The Indian duo of Manush and Diya had a positive start to the match as they came from behind to clinch the opening game after winning five of the last six points, 11-9.
Thereafter, however, they made a host of errors on service and dropped two back-to-back games (4-11, 8-11) to lose their early advantage.
The eight-seeded Maush and Diya staged a mini-comeback in the fourth game and were looking good to force a decider but they lost this opportunity and dropped the game after losing six points on the trot.
Similarly, Yashaswini Ghodpade and her Aussie Partner Minhyung Lee also suffered an early exit, losing to the second Chinese Taipei pairing in the pre-quarterfinal of the women's doubles competition.
Manav-Manush the lone warriors
The men's doubles pair of Manav and Manush are the only Indians now left in the competition after their comfortable straight-game victory against the Hong Kong pairing in the pre-quarterfinal
In the quarterfinal, they will face the fourth-seeded French pairing of Florian Bourrassaud and Esteban Dorr tomorrow.
