Nineteen-year-old Indian table tennis player Yashaswini Ghorpade finished as runner up in the 2024 Doha WTT Feeder Series, at the Lusail Sports Arena, on Sunday.

Facing Japan's Hitomi Sato in the final, Yashaswini lost 1-3 (9-11, 11-7, 8-11, 7-11).

Despite the loss, this tournament adds yet another accolade to the highly talented youngster, who is making great strides in the table tennis circuit for her age.

The Indian started off brilliantly, racing to a 8-4 lead in game one but the Japanese fought back, levelling things up at 9-9 and from there, she took game one 11-9, putting the Indian on the backfoot.

But game two saw Yashaswini fight back against Hitomi, and even though she gave away a 6-3 lead to drawing 7-7, the Indian held her composure and took the next four points on the trot, sealing game two and making it 1-1 in the contest.

The third game saw Hitomi surge ahead initially, with a 5-1 lead but Yashaswini pulled it back to 8-8, but the former held her nerve and took the game by winning the next three points.

The fourth and subsequently the final game of the match followed the same story as of game three, with the Japanese taking an early 6-1 lead and from there, she never let go of her advantage, ultimately winning the game 11-7 and took the final 3-1.
