India's Tanvi Khanna reached the women's singles quarter-finals at the 2026 Squash World Championships Asia Qualifying event in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
Khanna, seeded fifth in the tournament, beat Macao's Gigi Yeung 11-9, 11-6, 11-4 in straight games to start her campaign on a winning note.
She'll now face the top seeded Ainaa Amani of Malaysia in the quarter-finals on Thursday. With only the winner of the tournament set to qualify for the 2026 PSA World Championships, which will be held next month, Khanna will have her task cut out against Amani.
Meanwhile, the experienced Joshna Chinappa crashed out of the qualifying event in the very first round.
Chinappa suffered a 12-10, 9-11, 4-11, 3-11 loss after being a game up at the hands of Hong Kong's Po Yui Kirstie Wong. The loss brought an end to her World Championships hopes.
No Indian is in contention in the men's singles event, with the likes of Abhay Singh, Veer Chotrani, Ramit Tandon, and Velavan Senthilkumar all having already qualified for the World Championships.
