Tanvi Khanna faced a straight games defeat in the quarter-finals of the 2026 PSA Squash World Championships Asia Qualifiers in Hong Kong on Thursday.

She lost to top-seeded Ainaa Amani, 8-11, 7-11, 3-11, ending India's campaign at the qualifiers.

This also confirmed that India will not have any representation in the women's singles at the upcoming 2026 PSA World Championships in Giza, Egypt.

After the withdrawal of Anahat Singh and the first-round exit at these qualifiers for the experienced Joshna Chinappa, Tanvi was India's last hope for the world championships in women's singles.

But, she couldn't trouble the Malaysian opponent much, managing just 18 points across the three games and will now have to wait at least one more year for her world championships debut.

Tanvi recently defeated Ainaa at the Indian Open Squash last month, but could not find an answer today and now trails 1-2 in head-to-head score.

This will be the second time in the last three years that India will have no representation in the women's section, highlighting a concerning lack of bench strength in the domestic circuit.

On the other hand, India will have four players in the men's singles at the world championships, with Abhay Singh, Ramit Tandon, Veer Chotrani, and Velavan Senthilkumar qualifying directly via their world rankings.
