The recently concluded Squash Asian Junior Individual Championship, held in Macau from June 26 – 30 saw the Indian players put up a great performance. Thirty two players represented India in each of the Under 13, Under 15 Under 17 and U 19 categories. The finals in the U19 category were played between two Indian Players - Veer Chotrani and Yash Fadte; wherein, Veer beat Yash to win the Asian Junior Championship.

The 32 players who represented India trained under Chris Ryder, National Squash Coach for Britain and Indian coaches Dhiraj Singh, Bhuvneshwari Kumari, Surbhi Mishra, Dhruv Dhawan, Deepak Mishra, Abhinav Sinha at a high performance camp conducted by HCL in partnership with the Squash Rackets Federations of India (SRFI).  The High Performance Camp was part of the HCL Squash Podium Program, which aims to transform the Squash ecosystem in India. The players were coached to improve their overall game tactics, strength and conditioning during the two-week camp. Players were also assisted with nutritional direction and psychological counselling to help them perform better against their international counterparts.

Speaking about this success, Cyrus Poncha, SRFI Secretary General said,

We are proud of the stellar performance of the Indian players at the Asian Juniors. It is hearting to see their confidence and we believe it is an indication that our efforts are in the right direction. SRFI is focusing on the overall development of the sport in the country with the support of HCL. Together, we are driving programs including tournaments and coaching efforts that will nurture the Indian squash players and help them perform well at international platforms. I am confident that our Under 19 players will continue their winning streak at the upcoming Squash World Junior Championship to be held in Malaysia in August. This year has been fabulous as we now hold 3 Asian titles - Asian Men’s, Women’s & Boys under 19”.
