The Paris Olympics 2024 ignited a wave of sporting enthusiasm across India, leading to a significant rise in searches for sports training centres.

According to a new analysis of consumer search trends done by Justdial, a local search service company, searches for various sports training facilities have witnessed a substantial increase during the Olympic period - July 26 to August 12 - compared to the previous month - June 26 to July 12.

Nationwide, searches for sports training centres saw a remarkable 110 per cent increase during the Olympics. This surge was particularly astounding in metropolitan cities, which experienced a 133 per cent rise in searches, compared to a 92 per cent increase in non-metropolitan areas.

Among the major cities, Kolkata led the way with a 224 per cent increase, followed by Pune (203 per cent), Mumbai (171 per cent), Delhi (157 per cent), and Ahmedabad (154 per cent).

Hyderabad, on the other hand, experienced a 94 per cent rise, while Bangalore and Chennai saw 69 per cent and 60 per cent increases, respectively.

In non-metropolitan areas, the trend was equally impressive, with Dehradun reporting a 281 per cent increase, followed by Patna (263 per cent), and Guwahati (246 per cent).

Javelin throw training high on demand

The Olympics' impact was evident across various sports categories. The demand for javelin throw training is the highest with the sport recording a phenomenal 825 per cent increase in searches, fuelled by the star performer Neeraj Chopra's silver medal-winning finish at Paris 2024.

The city-wise spikes for javelin throw were particularly impressive, with Mumbai leading the way at 4332 per cent, followed by Pune at 3942 per cent and Delhi at 1085 per cent.

Pistol and rifle shooting training centres also experienced significant growth, with searches increasing by 282 per cent and 230 per cent, respectively. Archery, sword fencing, badminton, table tennis, and hockey training also witnessed notable spikes in search interest.

Specific cities showcased exceptional enthusiasm for certain sports. Pune emerged as a hotspot for rifle shooting training centres, with a 1013 per cent increase in searches.

Delhi and Hyderabad led the way in archery classes, recording 747 per cent and 733 per cent increases, respectively.

Mumbai dominated searches for pistol shooting training centres with a 921 per cent surge.
