Shooter Elavenil Valarivan clinches silver, the first medal for India, at the 10m Air Rifle Women's event of the Napoli 2019 World University Games (Summer Universiade). The Tamil Nadu-born shooter shot a score of 249.0. Czech Republic's Lucie Brazdova clinched gold, shooting 250.3, while Chinese Taipei's LIN Ying-Shin clinched bronze with  225.2 Earlier today, Valarivan topped the first qualification round of the discipline scoring 630.8, creating a qualifications round world university record, her nearest opponent was Brazdova with 628.1. Valirivan, who is currently pursuing her B.A. in English Literature from Gujarat University, trains under former Olympic bronze medallist Gagan Narang. She was included in the specialised program organised by GFG in collaboration with Olympic Gold Quest. Valarivan created history last year. Competing in her second Junior World Cup in Sydney, she first set a world record in the qualification round and went on to win gold in the 10m air rifle event. The 19-year old also recorded a fourth-place finish at the ISSF World Cup in Munich earlier this year, holding her own against senior competitors. In 2011 World University Games in China, India's Harveen Srao won the gold at the women’s 10 metre air pistol.
