Rhythm Sangwan pips Manu Bhaker to win 25m pistol National Trials

The double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker finished second best in a shootoff.

Double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker was relegated to the second spot in the women's 25m pistol selection trial 2 round on day five of the Rifle/Pistol National Selection Trials (Group A) on Wednesday at the at Dr Karni Singh Shooting range (DKSSR) in New Delhi.

Returning to competitive shooting after the Paris Olympics, Bhaker was pipped by Rhythm Sangwan who emerged winner in the event via a shoot off from the final group which incidentally featured four other Olympians.

In the finals, both Sangwan and Bhaker shot a score of 37, which warranted a shoot off, where the former scored 4/5 while the double Olympic medallist shot 3/5.

Despite winning the event, Sangwan will not be a part of the national team owing to the national ranking being outside the top-3.

Currently, Manu Bhaker, Simranpreet and Esha occupy the top-3 spots in the national rankings.

Swapnil Kusale emerges on top

In other events, Paris Olympics bronze medallist Swapnil Kusale and Arya Rajesh Borse won the men's 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) T1 and the women's 10m air rifle T2 events.

Kusale shot a total of 465.1 to top the charts ahead of Akhil Sheoran (462.5) and Chain Singh (451.7).

Meanwhile, Arya Rajesh Borse registered a total of 253.5 to finish ahead of Ananya Naidu (253) and Mehuli Ghosh (230.6).
