The newest tragedy to hit India in terms of health and safety issues is the Nipah virus which is seen specifically targeting the state of Kerala. The concern over the outbreak has prompted government aided evacuation of families from the state due to lack of adequate treatment available. But the outbreak has issued a widespread concern over India's shooting community too with National Junior Coach Jaspal Rana requesting a postponement of the Kumar Surendra Singh Memorial Shooting Championship and the Selection Trials slated to be held in Trivandrum later this month going into June As per reports timed back to 12 hours earlier, The Health Department of Kerala came out with a confirmation that three people had reportedly succumbed to the infection in Kozhikode district after having been infected by a rare virus called Nipah. Keeping these casualities in mind, Jaspal Rana took to Facebook to voice his concern, addressing his post to the chief of National Rifle Association of India Raninder Singh.
"Got to know about the rare & deadly mysterious Nipah Virus spread in Kerala ! Evacuation in process. Request all to avoid going there & Also, humble request to Raninder Singh ji Presedent the National Rifle Association of India to shift & postpone the upcoming shooting selection trail 5 & KSS CHAMPIONSHIP which is going to be held in Trivandrum Kerala from 30/05/2018,"
his post read. The fact of the matter, however, remains that the outbreak and its impact have mostly been restricted to areas like Calicut and Kochi which are located in the Northern part of the state. Thiruvananthapuram, located in the extreme south, needing nearly 6-7 hours of travel from the affected areas, have reported no cases of the hitherto deadly virus.
It has been decided to hold selection trial no. 5 for senior, junior and youth events at Shooting Range, Vattiyoorkkavu, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala from 7th to 17th June 2018 as per the program attached. This trial will be organized and conducted by the NRAI. Shooters who have achieved the scores as per annexure “A” during the following competitions as per Selection Policy 2018 will be allowed to participate in these trials, the current circular for the selection trial reads.
