Harinder Singh Sodhi, a renowned figure in Indian polo and a former Arjuna awardee, has passed away at the age of 86 due to age-related ailments.

Known affectionately as "Billy," Sodhi left a remarkable legacy in Indian polo, achieving a handicap of plus-five during his peak.

He played alongside legends such as Hanut Singh, Sawai Man Singh (the Maharaja of Jaipur), and later with the Maharaja's son, Bhawani Singh.

In addition to his impressive career, Sodhi managed the Indian equestrian team during the 1980 Moscow Olympics, contributing to the nation’s reputation in equestrian sports.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, and his legacy in Indian polo endures, as his younger brother, Ravinder Singh Sodhi, is also an Arjuna Award recipient and a celebrated polo player.

Sodhi’s passing marks the end of an era for Indian polo, where his contributions helped popularize the sport in the country.
