World Pickleball League: Bengaluru Jawans stun Chennai Super Champs

Bengaluru Jawans capped off their opening match of the World Pickleball League (WPBL) with a 5-0 victory over a spirited Chennai Super Champs outfit in their encounter at the Cricket Club of India (CCI)-Brabourne Stadium this evening.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, Chennai displayed immense grit and determination, pushing their opponents in key moments of the match.
However, Bengaluru’s clinical execution proved decisive, though Chennai thrilled the spectators with their stunning performance, something that will keep the fans excited when they set about to better their performances further in the league.

The match opened with an intense men’s singles showdown between Edward Perez of Chennai and Jack Foster of Bengaluru. Perez fought valiantly and kept the scores neck and neck throughout the match, but Foster’s composure under pressure saw him edge out a 15-14 win to give Bengaluru an early lead.
The women’s doubles clash saw Chennai’s Thaddea Lock and Sarah Jane Lim square off against Bengaluru’s Alejandra Borobia and her partner Trang Huynh-McClain. Despite Chennai’s best efforts, Bengaluru Jawans clinched a convincing 15-6 win, doubling their lead.
The men’s doubles encounter was another hard-fought affair, with Chennai’s Etienne Blaszkewycz and Tanner Tomassi putting up a brave fight against the Jardim brothers, Marcello and Mauro. Chennai tried to match their opponents’ precision and power but fell short, losing 12-9 in a closely contested tie.
In the women’s singles, Anna Clarice Patrimonio faced Katerina Stewart. Patrimonio gave it her all, but Bengaluru sealed a 22-11 win.
The mixed doubles tie featured Chennai’s Etienne Blaszkewycz and Sarah Jane Lim against Bengaluru’s Jack Foster and Trang Huynh-McClain. Bengaluru wrapped up the match with a 17-7 victory, completing the win.
Chennai Super Champs, despite the tough start, exhibited glimpses of their potential. With key learnings from this match, they will look to regroup and bounce back stronger in their next outing.
