Para-athlete Preethi Pal created history on Friday by winning India's first-ever medal in track events at the Paralympics in Paris.

Preethi won a bronze medal in the women's 100m T35. She clocked her personal best of 14.21s in the 100m race and finished third.

China claimed the gold and silver medals with Zhou Xia (13.58s) and Guo Qianqian (13.74s) finishing in the top two spots.

This medal is historic as it is the first time an Indian para-athlete has won a medal in a track event. India won 17 medals until now in Para Athletics at Paralympics but all of them came in the field events.

Preethi will have another chance to make a podium finish when she competes in the women's 200m T35 event later on September 1.

Preethi is having a brilliant season as she created history at the World Para Athletics Championships earlier in the year. She won India's first-ever medal in the 200m T35 event clocking an impressive 30.49 seconds to secure the bronze medal.

This is India's third medal at the Paralympic Games 2024 with Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal winning gold and bronze respectively in a 10m air rifle shooting SH1 earlier today.
