Indian Para-shooters continued their good run at the Paris Paralympic Games as Manish Narwal added a third medal to the Indian shooting medal tally on Friday.
He won a silver medal in the P1 - Men's 10m Air Pistol SH1 category.
This is the second consecutive medal for Narwal at the Paralympic Games after the gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics. He showed consistent shooting in the final to jump up the ranks and win a medal with a total score of 234.9.
However, he had a poor start to the final because of one low opening shot of 8.1 in the first series.
But, he didn't let this shot hamper his confidence and continued to progress through the rounds with consistent 10s.
After 15 shots, he was at the top of the standings. But then, he had three consecutive shots in the 9-ring and fell to the second position behind the eventual champion Jo Jeongdu of South Korea.
Jo continued his great run throughout the later phase of the final and won the gold medal with a total score of 237.4. The bronze medal went in the favour of China's Yang Chao with a score of 214.3.
Earlier, in the qualification round Manish finished in fifth position with a total of 565 (12X). He had a comeback run in the qualifying round also where he was lagging in the standings, because of two poor second series of 91.
But, then he made a comeback and booked his spot in the final with two good series of 97 and 96 in the fourth and sixth end respectively.
The other Indian in contention, Rudransh Khandelwal, however, missed out on the final by just 1 point and finished in 9th position with a total of 561.
This is the fourth medal for India overall and third medal in shooting at the Paralympic Games 2024.
