It was a heartbreaking evening for Indian badminton fans as the defending champion Krishna Nagar suffered a group-stage exit in the men's singles SH6 category at the Paris Paralympic Games on Saturday.

He conceded his second straight defeat in the group stage, where, in the final group match against Thailand's Natthapong Meechai, he retired out in the second game, trailing by 3-11.

Earlier, he also suffered a defeat in the first group stage match against Miles Krajewski of the USA in the straight games on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the women's SH6 category, top-seeded Nithya Sre Sivan conceded her first defeat of the tournament in her last group-stage match against Lin Shunagbao of China, 20-22, 18-21.

This was the fourth meeting between the two and the Indian hadn't found a way out for Lin yet, losing in all four of these occasions. Despite that, Nithya still qualified for the quarterfinal stage.

In the women's singles SL3 category, Mandeep Kaur won her first match of the Paris Paralympics 2024 as she beat Vinot Celine Aurelie of Australia and booked her spot into the quarterfinals.

Whereas in men's singles SL3, Nitesh Kumar won his match against Bunsun M of Thailand in straight games, 21-13, 21-14 in the Men's Singles SL3 category, making his way to the semi-finals.

In the same category, Manoj Sarkar defeated his Chinese opponent Jianyuan Yang 21-15, 21-11, but finished third in his group, failing to qualify for the knockout stage.

Medal Confirmed in SL4

India's Sukant Kadam defeated Thailand's Siripong in straight games with identical scores of 21-12, and 21-12 in the men's singles SL4 category.

With this victory, India has assured itself of at least a bronze, as Suhas has also qualified for the semi-final in the same category.

Whereas, Tarun Dhillon was defeated by defending champion Lucas Mazur of France in straight games (7-21, 16-21), marking his exit from the competition.

On the other hand, second-seeded Manisha Ramdass was defeated by China’s Qiu Xia Yang in straight games, 21-15, 21-7 in her final group game of the women's singles SU5 category.

Despite this loss, the World No. 2 has qualified for the quarterfinals of this category after finishing second in her group.
