Paralympics 2024 Day 8: Kapil Parmar wins India's first-ever medal in blind judo - Highlights

India will look to add more medals to their tally at the Paralympics 2024 on Thursday after surpassing their Tokyo Paralympics tally of 19. India so far won 25 medals.
Mona Agarwal and Harvinder Singh will be in action. While Mona aims for a bronze medal, Harvinder and Pooja will look to add a gold medal in the mixed team recurve event. Simran is also a good medal prospect in the women's 100 T12 event.

In the archery competition, India's Singh scored a bullseye with a 10, while Jatyan delivered a solid 9. Slovenia's Dejan also hit a 10, marking Slovenia's first perfect score, while Ziva shot an 8. On the second arrow, Jatyan followed up with a 10 and Singh added a 9, ending the set strongly for India. In response, Dejan scored a 7 and Ziva hit an 8. India took the third set.

In set two, Slovenia starts strong with Dejan shooting an 8 and Ziva also scoring an 8. In response, Singh manages only a 6 and Jatyan scores a 5. On the second arrow, Dejan hits a 9 and Ziva follows with another 9. Jatyan scores an 8, while Singh delivers a perfect 10. Despite Singh’s perfect score, Slovenia takes set two. India 29 - 34 Slovenia.

In the opening round, the Indian team started with Singh scoring 9 points and Jatyan following with 8. Slovenia's Dejan then scored a 7, while his teammate Ziva hit an 8. In the second round, the Indian pair achieved consecutive 8s, while Dejan scored another 7 and Ziva scored an 8. As a result, India won the first set.

A momentary lapse in judgment by Brazil's Elielton de Oliveira allowed Kapil to capitalize and secure victory by Ippon.
With this India has its first medal in Blind Judo, Men's 60 kg J1 category, a bronze!
