Paralympics 2024 Shooting: Avani Lekhara finishes fifth in 50m rifle 3P
Avani Lekhara ended her Paris Paralympics campaign with one gold medal after finishing fifth in the final of the 50m rifle 3P.
Star Indian shooter Avani Lekhara finished in fifth place in the final of the 50m three positions SH1 event of the Paris Paralympics on Tuesday.
This means that Avani will return from Paris with just a gold medal while she had won a gold and a bronze at the Tokyo Paralympics.
Avani shot a total of 420.6 in the eight-shooter final.
Avani started well in the final and shot a total of 51.1 in the first series to stay at the top of the field. However, in the second series, Avani recorded three shots less than 10 and fell to fifth place with a total of 48.9.
She picked it up in the third series starting with a brilliant shot of 10.6 and complimented it with 10.4 and 10.8. She was stationed at the second spot after the kneeling position was over.
Avani started well in the prone position and was placed third after the first series of 50.6.
The next two series from Avani were poor ones with a score of 49.9 and 50.1 which meant that she would fall to sixth after the end of the prone position. With a difference of 2.8 from the bronze medal position, Avani had a lot of ground to cover in the last two series of standing positions.
In the first series of standing, Avani started well with four shots of 10.3, 10.0, 10.2, and 10.0 but a poor 8.3 in the last meant that the gap from the bronze medal position grew further.
A decent enough 50.4 in the last series meant that she would enter the elimination round in fifth place.
She survived the first elimination with a good shot of 10.6 but perished in the second shot with a poor 9.3 finishing fifth in the final.
India has won a total of four medals in Para Shooting till now with one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
