Dhanush-Mahit beat Vania-Joshi to win gold at World Deaf C'ships

Shooters Dhanush and Mahit defeated fellow Indians Mohammed Vania and Natasha Joshi 17-5 to emerge champions. India won 13 medals so far in Germany.

India's Dhanush Srikanth and Mahit Sandhu dazzled at the World Deaf Shooting Championships as they clinched the gold medal in the mixed air rifle event in Hannover, Germany.

Dhanush and Mahit defeated fellow Indians Mohammed Vania and Natasha Joshi 17-5 to emerge champions.

The Indian duo have been in phenomenal form at the Championships as they also topped the qualification with a world record score of 628.8.

With this gold in the mixed air rifle event, Dhanush completed a double. Earlier, he won a gold medal in the individual men's rifle rifle category with a world record. In the same event, Shourya Saini and Vania won the silver and bronze, completing a clean sweep for India.

This was also Mahit's second medal. Earlier, she won a silver medal in the 10m air rifle women's final.

Meanwhile, in the mixed air pistol event gold medal match, Abhinav Deshwal and Pranjali Dhumal went down 7-17 against Oleksii Lazenyk and Inna Afonchenko of Ukraine.

The Indian duo lost despite topping the qualification round with a score of 565, seven points better than the Ukraine team. They, however, could not replicate their best form in the final.

Prashant Panjali wins bronze, Anuya finishes 5th

Prashant Panjali Dhumal won a bronze medal in the 25m women's pistol final. Anuya Prasad, the other Indian in the fray, finished fifth.

Earlier, Anuya won a gold medal in the 10m air pistol women's final, while Abhinav Deshwal and Shubham Vashist won the silver and bronze medal in the men's 10m air pistol event.

India also won a silver medal in the 10m air pistol men's team event, with Abhinav, Shubham and Hanmant Chetan pairing up to win the medal. Natasha Udya, on the other hand, won bronze in the 10m air rifle women's final.

India so far won 13 medals, including three gold, six silver and four bronze.

The World Deaf Championships, which started on August 29, will end on September 7.
