Two-time Paralympic champion Sumit Antil broke his own World record in men's F64 Javelin throw event at Indian Open Para Athletics Championships in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

He unleashed a massive 74.82m throw in his fifth attempt to improve on his personal best and previous world record of 73.29m to win the title.

"I was thinking why I'm not able to better it (World Record) in competiton its so long, but today I came here just to do my personal best anyhow," said Sumit to the Bridge after his world record.

Sumit had last set the world record at the 2023 Para Asian Games in China. Three years later, he has now improved his own world record for the seventh time with a massive 1.5m gap.

"I'm happy that I improved my mark by 1.5m and hope that my team and I will continue to do better at the upcoming Para Asian Games," he added.

Sumit was aiming to improve his world record at last year's home world championships, but he missed out there because of rehab from a shoulder injury.

But now, after changing his technique and rhythm, he has finally achieved his target and is eager to defend his Asian Para Games gold at the Aichi-Nagaoya Asian Para Games.
