PM Modi wishes luck to the Indian contingent for the Paris Paralympics
The Paris Paralympics is scheduled to begin on August 28 and end on September 8.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian Paralympic team on Monday as they prepare to compete in the prestigious Paris Paralympics.
Modi assured the athletes of the entire nation's support and encouragement as they strive for glory on the international stage.
"Your journey is as important to the country as it is for you and your careers. Our country's pride will be related to what you all achieve there. An entire country is rooting for you.” PM said in his address to the athletes.
“140 crore Indians are sending their blessings to you. Vijay Bhava (May you be victorious). Like you did at the Asian Paralympics and the Tokyo Paralympics, I wish you all create new records in Paris," he said.
The Prime Minister utilized the virtual interaction to learn more about the experiences of veteran athletes, inquiring about their Olympic triumphs and motivations, and also took the opportunity to understand the driving force behind the new participants going for the Paris Paralympic Games.
Modi’s first interaction was with 17-year-old para-archer Sheetal Devi, the youngest member of the Indian team making her Games debut.
"Don't let the pressure get to you," Modi advised the young archer. "Focus on giving your best, regardless of the outcome. The entire nation is behind you."
"There is no stress. My preparation has been very good, sir. I want to ensure that the tri-color is flown in Paris," Sheetal replied.
The Prime Minister also inquired about the impact of the inaugural Khelo India Para Games last December on the athletes in preparation for the Paralympics.
Bhavina Patel took the opportunity to express her gratitude for the initiative.
"Khelo India initiative has played a very important role in the development of sports in recent years. Because of it so many talents have emerged from the grassroots. It's a very good platform for para-athletes and has given them a new direction." she stated.
"Sixteen players who qualified for the Paris Paralympics are products of the Khelo India program," Bhavina added.
During the Interaction, the athletes also emphasized the role of the TOPS scheme and the influence of SAI, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in helping the athletes prepare for the Paralympics. Modi also added a special recovery center has been set up for all the athletes at the Games Village in Paris.
"I am hopeful that this recovery center too will prove to be very beneficial to you all," the PM added.
The Paris Paralympics is set to kick off on August 28 and conclude on September 8.
This year, India is sending its largest-ever contingent of 84 athletes.
