India's Anuya Prasad clinched the women’s air pistol gold medal on the opening day of the World Deaf Championships in Hannover, Germany, on Sunday.

Anuya won the gold medal shooting a thrilling 10.3 in her final shot as she edged past Sofia Olenych of Ukraine by 0.1 point in the second edition of the event.

Pranjali Dhumal, meanwhile, qualified for the final with a world record score of 568, but she could not replicate her form in the final.

She finished fourth in the final behind Halyna Mosina of Ukraine.

In the men’s air pistol event, Abhinav Deshwal and Shubham Vashist settled for the silver and bronze medals respectively, behind Oleksii Lazebnyk of Ukraine.

In the men's team event, the Indian men's team, featuring Abhinav, Shubham and Chetan, won the silver medal. Ukraine clinched the gold medal, while Germany bagged the bronze medal.

The World Championships will end on September 7.

Indian shooters, competing in the air rifle and air pistol disciplines, will aim for more medals.

The Indian squad also included shooters like Dhanush Srikanth, accompanied by an interpreter and coaches Preeti Sharma (Pistol) and Sanjeev Rajput (Rifle).
