The shortage of cooking gas or LPG due to the ongoing war in West Asia and the Middle East has hit Indian sports, with the Sports Authority of India's (SAI) canteen in Delhi closed since a fortnight.
The canteen, which is exclusively for the staff working with SAI, has been serving only tea and coffee since using an induction cooktop.
"The SAI head office canteen served 150 staff with breakfast and evening snacks daily," a source told The Bridge.
"The staff at the head office have to go out for food since the last 15 days after the canteen was closed due to LPG shortage."
Athletes unaffected
Though the SAI canteen has been closed, the athletes training at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium remain unaffected.
"The canteen which caters only to the athletes in the camp at the JLN stadium remains fully functional," the source added.
Since Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz after the United States of America and Israel's coordinated military attack on the nation, India's LPG supply has been affected.
While the Union Government has constantly maintained that there's no LPG shortage in official statements, multiple ground reports show migrant workers heading back to their respective villages due to the same.
