Assam CM urges athletes to aware themselves about anti-doping provisions
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that adequate awareness of the athletes regarding the evil effects of performance-enhancing substances would lead to creating deterrence against the use of such substances. Speaking at an awareness workshop organised by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) in association with Dibrugarh District Administration, State Level Advisory Committee for Students and Youth Welfare, District Sports Association, Dibrugarh and Oil India Limited at District Library Auditorium in Dibrugarh on Monday, Sonowal said that awareness towards the protocol of Anti-Doping Agency will help the athletes to discourage the use of performance-enhancing drugs and excel in the national and international sports events. Chief Minister Sonowal said that adequate awareness should be generated among sporting talents to know about the banned substances and keep themselves detached from such substances. He added that if the athletes of the state are given the right kind of training, the foundation of sports in Assam can be made stronger. Sonowal also said that sport is a discipline which involves a lot of values. By inculcating devotion, dedication and diligence, the athletes need to proceed towards excellence. Referring to ace boxer Mary Kom, Sonowal said that she is the epitome and represents the sports fraternity and shows that with devotion and dedication, sportspersons can reach the zenith of success. Sonowal said that athletes have a significant role to play in nation building. Therefore, the state government has adopted several steps for the systematic development of sports in the state. He also said that the decision of the state government to establish Sports University at Chabua would lead to creating more sporting talent who will be disciplined and who can take the responsibility in leading the state in the field of sports.
