A public marathon dedicated to organ donation awareness in Tamil Nadu was recognised for the largest number of participants by The Asian Book of Records. The state has become a lighthouse for the entire country, as it happens to be one of the best-performing states in terms of organ donation. The marathon saw large participation in raising awareness about organ donation. The marathon saw large participation in raising awareness about organ donation. The state’s health minister Dr Vijaya Baskar, as reported by The Hindu, emphasised the need for raising awareness about organ donation programmes. The state government has been putting efforts to make organ donation a people’s movement through significant initiatives. And with one-of-its-kind initiatives, the state of Tamil Nadu continues its efforts for generating public awareness to support the cause of organ donation and topping the tally of organ donation game, thereby setting an example for other states of India.

Organised by TRANSTAN and the Health department, the marathon was largely a public-dominated affair with a large number of school students, families, NGOs and others participating in the event. Over 12,000 people participated in the marathon, officials said. Those who wished to donate and receive organs are required to register online through SBI without having to travel to Chennai for registration with the Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN), Mr. Vijaya Baskar told The Hindu after the event.
