We are in the final month of the year 2020, and Twitter India has decided to put up a recap with their #Thishappened campaign, highlighting the tweets or trends which dominated the platform in India during this year.

Unsurprisingly, it was the Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli’s tweet announcing the pregnancy of wife Anushka Sharma which was the most liked tweet of the year.

Virat had tweeted a picture of him and Sharma during late August with a caption, “And then, we were three! Arriving in Jan 2021.” The tweet had garnered around 643.6k likes when this article was written.

As for the most used sports hashtags in India during 2020, #IPL2020 and #WhistlePodu led the charts at the first and second place, while #TeamIndia took the third place, mainly due to Indian women’s stellar run during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in February and March 2020.

On the other hand, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s post thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his retirement wishes was the most re-tweeted tweet in sports.

Dhoni had posted a picture of the letter by the Prime Minister and captioned it, “An Artist, Solider and Sportsperson what they crave for is appreciation, that their hardwork and sacrifice is getting noticed and appreciated by everyone. Thanks PM @narendramodi for your appreciation and good wishes.” This tweet had registered around 78.1k retweets by the time this article was written.
