The eighth season of the Tennis Premier League (TPL) will be held in Hyderabad from December 8 to 13, the organisers announced on Friday.

The eight-team event, in its signature 25-point format, will be held at the LB Tennis Stadium with the support of the Telangana government.

GS Delhi Aces, Hyderabad Strikers, Lucknow Blazers, Gurgaon Grand Slammers, Gujarat Panthers, Rajasthan Rangers, Kolkata Thunder Blades and Mumbai Royals compete in the league.

"Season 8 is a landmark chapter for TPL, not just because we're bringing world-class tennis to Hyderabad for the first time, but because it's the first season where fans will see our partnership with Kia India come alive. It's a strong signal of how far this league has come, and Hyderabad's sporting culture makes it the perfect city to take that next step in our journey," Kunal Thakkur, co-founder, Tennis Premier League, said.

The previous edition was held in Ahmedabad.

Fast-paced and broadcast friendly

Launched in 2018 by Kunal Thakkur and Mrunal Jain, the Tennis Premier League is India's franchise-based professional team tennis tournament, built around a fast-paced, broadcast-friendly format designed to keep both live crowds and TV audiences engaged.

Each team tie is contested over four matches: Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, with every match worth 25 points, making each game and point critical to the overall team standings.

Squads are assembled through an annual player auction, blending international stars, top Indian players, and rising young talent.

The GS Delhi Aces are the reigning champions, having won Season 7 in 2025. Historically, the Hyderabad Strikers have been the league's most dominant franchise, claiming three titles (2021, 2022, and 2024). Bengaluru SG Mavericks won in 2023.

Star presence

Over the years, TPL has attracted a strong mix of marquee names.

Indian tennis icon Rohan Bopanna, a two-time Grand Slam champion, has been a standout presence, alongside international talents such as Wimbledon doubles champion Matthew Ebden, Italian clay-court specialist Luciano Darderi, and French ATP stars Corentin Moutet and Alexandre Muller.

Former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanišević joined as a mentor and star attraction in Season 3, while Argentine player Tomas Martin Etcheverry has led the Delhi franchise's charge in recent seasons.
