Sandip Pradhan’s tenure as the Director General of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) came to an end on Monday after over five years in the role.

Pradhan, an Indian Revenue Service officer from the 1990 batch, was officially “relieved” from his position by the government.

Starting October 1, sports secretary Sujata Chaturvedi has been assigned additional responsibilities as the new SAI Director General.

Pradhan first took charge as SAI DG in July 2019, having been promoted from his previous role as deputy DG.

His initial tenure was extended by two years in May 2020, followed by another extension in 2022.

Sujata Chaturvedi, a 1989 batch IAS officer from the Bihar cadre, was appointed sports secretary in 2021.

She will now lead the Sports Authority of India, overseeing the organization’s ongoing efforts to promote and develop sports in the country.

Pradhan’s time at SAI saw significant initiatives aimed at improving the country’s sporting infrastructure and performance, but now, with Chaturvedi at the helm, the focus will be on continuing these efforts as India prepares for future sporting challenges.
