In the wake of a nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of novel coronavirus, concerns have been raised about daily-wage earners being left without any source of income due to a sudden lack of work. While the government announcing a package worth Rs 1.7 lakh crore for daily wagers and the poor will go a long way in ensuring that no one sleeps hungry, many are still grappling with the loss of bread and lurking disease and death.

In what can be called one of the biggest gestures by any Indian athlete, women’s hockey captain Rani Rampal took the lead on her own feet to feed the poor, left stranded away from their homes, by enabling dry ration distribution to 150 families in Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.

“Let’s stand together in these difficult times to ensure that the underprivileged are helped to get the basic necessities. Thank you @DCPSouthDelhi @ADcpsouthdelhi for initiating the ration distribution as #DelhiPoliceFightsCovid,” she wrote on Twitter.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police also expressed his gratitude to Rampal. “We express our gratitude to @imranirampal for enabling Dry Ration Distribution to 150 families in Ambedkar Nagar,” read the tweet.
