India’s Ankita Raina saw a double delight coming her way as she wins the women's singles title at the ITF Thailand Tennis 25K$ Championships event in Nonthaburi, Thailand after defeating fourth-seed French Chloe Pacquet in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
The Indian No. 1 female player in the singles circuit, who was seeded third in the tournament, won the first singles title of the year. The world no. 171 Indian could dislodge her rival by winning 64 points in contrary to Pacquet's 58.
Despite picking up seven aces in the match, the French world no. 178, suffered the blow owing to a series of double faults that kept on costing her points. Ankita managed to win the tie by proving her supremacy in 13 games.
On Saturday, in the doubles final, Ankita, seeded No.1 with Bibiane Schoofs of the Netherlands, beat the Thai wild card entrants Supapitch Kuearum and Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-4, 6-2 to lift the title.
