Rohan Bopanna paired up with Canadian Oliver Marach to win his men’s doubles first round match at the ATP 1000 Paris Masters. Bopanna and Marach overcame the Serbian pair of Dusan Lajovic and Nikola Cacic 7-5, 7-6 to enter the round of 16.

Serving first in the match, both Bopanna and Marach looked a bit wobbly at the start gifting two of break point chances to the opponents. But the pair soon regained their composure to save both the break points and pocketed the opening game.

It was not smooth sailing for either of the pairs, before Bopanna-Marach got the opening they wanted in the 12th game of the match to take the first set 7-5, even after they missed a break point.

The Indo-Canadian pairtook a 2-0 lead in the second set before losing their serve in the third game. The Serbian pair took great advantage of this slip-up and forced their way back into the game.

In what was a solid display of tennis thereafter, Bopanna and Marach saved their fifth break point of the match and took a 6-5 lead at a very crucial juncture. This gave the pair an advantage to wrap-up the game before the second set went into a tie-breaker but they failed to close it off.

The tie-breaker was a tough grind for Bopanna-Marach before they scored two consecutive points to finish off the match in straight sets.

The Indo-Canadian pair will now face the French-Dutch pair of Fabrice Martin and Jean- Julien Rojer in the round of 16 at the Paris Masters.
