India is in a lockdown to fight the coronavirus pandemic. The country is in a disarray. In what is being described as once in a lifetime situation, the need of the hour is for everyone to come together.

Amid all the chaos Indian sportspersons have come forward to lend their helping hand in country's fight against the pandemic.

Let us have a look at the athletes who have done the country proud by doing their bit for the country in a bid to make the lives of have-nots easier.

Star Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia decided to donate his six months salary for the fight against the deadly virus. The World Champion medalist pledged his half-a-year-of-earning to the coronavirus relief fund for the state of Haryana.

World Champion and Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu has donated Rs.10 lakh for the noble cause. She has donated Rs. 5 lakh each to the state of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in her bid to support the country. She also appealed everyone to stay home and abide by the lockdown rules.

Former captain of the Indian men's cricket team, MS Dhoni also stepped forward. Dhoni has Rs. 1 lakh via crowd funding website Ketto to the Mukul Madhav Foundation, public charitable trust in Pune. Maharashtra is the worst affected state of India due to the pandemic.

Young Indian Sprinter Hima Das is also one of the sports persons who has come forward in this fight against the virus. She has pledged her one month's salary to the Assam government in Assam Arogya Nidhi Account. She is also one of the few athletes who has been very instrumental in dissemination of awareness and information when it comes to COVID-19.

Opener of Indian men's cricket team Shikhar Dhawan too has joined the ever growing list of sportspersons who have contributed to the relief fund. He contributed to Prime Minister's Relief Fund and requested everyone to support so that that together we all can make a difference.

Tennis ace Sania Mirza — who is also a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia — on her part has donated to social venture group Safa. The group looks into empowering girls and women by taking caring of their income generation and education.

Former cricketer and now a Member of Parliament Gautam Gambhir has led by example by contributing a sum of Rs 50 lakh from his MP LAD fund to procure medical supplies for the government hospitals of Delhi to treat the COVID-19 patients.

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar also has decided to contribute Rs 25 lakh each to Prime Minister's Relief Fund and Chief Minister's Relief Fund in his bid to join the fight against COVID-19.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has decided to provide food for the coronavirus hit people by pledging rice worth Rs. 50 lakh. He has also offered Kolkata's Eden Gardens to West Bengal government if they want to use it and convert it into a temporary hospital for the care of COVID-19 patients.
